Unlike CB radio, with just the Mid and UK on F M (80ch in all) Amateur radio operators enjoy the benefits of using a wide range of frequencies from HF,
through VHF,UHF and even microwave, Multiple  modes, i.e. Upper Sideband, Lower Sideband, AM, FM and CW (Morse). There are also Packet, SSTV,
FSTV modes and so on... There are even repeaters throughout the UK and Sattelite links... SO, for a little effort you can soon have an array of choices
before you.
